Future Tense (BudoucĂ ÄŤas)
The formation of the future tense depends entirely on the Aspect of the verb.
Visual Overview
1. Imperfective Verbs (Process)
Use the future form of být + the Infinitive.
| Person | Být (Future) | Infinitive | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Já | budu | pracovat | I will be working |
| Ty | budeš | pracovat | You will be working |
| On | bude | pracovat | He will be working |
| My | budeme | pracovat | We will be working |
| Vy | budete | pracovat | You will be working |
| Oni | budou | pracovat | They will be working |
2. Perfective Verbs (Result)
Perfective verbs do not have a present tense. Their "present" conjugation actually expresses the Future.
- Infinitive: udělat (to do/finish)
- Conjugation:
- Já udělám = I will do (and finish).
- Ty uděláš = You will do.
- On udělá = He will do.
Note: You CANNOT say "budu udělat". That is a serious grammar error.
3. Motion Verbs
A small group of motion verbs form the future with the prefix po-.
- jĂt (to go) → pĹŻjdu (I will go)
- jet (to go by vehicle) → pojedu (I will go)
- letÄ›t (to fly) → poletĂm (I will fly)
