Visual Overview

Future Tense Cheatsheet

1. Imperfective Verbs (Process)

Use the future form of být + the Infinitive.

PersonBýt (Future)InfinitiveMeaning
JábudupracovatI will be working
TybudešpracovatYou will be working
OnbudepracovatHe will be working
MybudemepracovatWe will be working
VybudetepracovatYou will be working
OnibudoupracovatThey will be working

2. Perfective Verbs (Result)

Perfective verbs do not have a present tense. Their "present" conjugation actually expresses the Future.

  • Infinitive: udÄ›lat (to do/finish)
  • Conjugation:
    • Já udÄ›lám = I will do (and finish).
    • Ty udÄ›láš = You will do.
    • On udÄ›lá = He will do.

Note: You CANNOT say "budu udělat". That is a serious grammar error.

3. Motion Verbs

A small group of motion verbs form the future with the prefix po-.

  • jĂt (to go) → pĹŻjdu (I will go)
  • jet (to go by vehicle) → pojedu (I will go)
  • letÄ›t (to fly) → poletĂm (I will fly)
